On Wednesday, March 29, 2017 Good Sports collaborated with our long-time partner GEICO insurance to deliver over $15,000 in brand new soccer equipment and apparel to South End Soccer at the Roxbury YMCA.

The equipment before it was distributed to South End Soccer

South End Soccer offers the rare opportunity for kids to play soccer free of charge & year round in the city of Boston. Their leagues are co-ed for ages 5-18 years and serve over 1,000 youth of every skill level and interest. South End Soccer is also unique in that they offer leagues that consist of only scrimmages & fundamentals to encourage those that thrive in a noncompetitive environment to still be physically active. Fun is the focal point and keeps participants coming back season after season.

In the fall of 2016, SES launched TOPSoccer, a US soccer program designed to “reach and meet the needs of children aged 5-19 years with physical and/or mental disabilities. The program caters to player development rather than competition”.

South End Soccer’s mission:

“[South End Soccer] is committed to providing high-quality soccer programming to children in Boston’s South End, Roxbury, Chinatown and adjacent neighborhoods. Our goal is to give children between the ages of 5 & 18 the opportunity to play soccer and learn to engender a love of the game regardless of prior experience or economic means.”

Over 1,000 kids will be impacted by this equipment donation, which included soccer balls, shin guards, soccer goals, agility ladders, speed rings, coaching sticks, and team uniforms.

We were pleased to welcome South End Soccer Co-Founder and Registrar Caroline K Foscato, GEICO Representatives Samantha Freedman, Office of Legislative Council and Representative Aaron Michlewitz, Roxbury YMCA Executive Director Kathryn Saunders, Good Sports Board Members Dave Belyea, Matt Camp, Bonnie Monahan, and Bry Roskoz, as well as Good Sports Representatives Michael Wright and Courtney Schermerhorn to this event.
