Equipment Grants

Good Sports is a non-profit whose mission is to increase youth participation in sports, recreation and fitness activities. Good Sports provides sports equipment, apparel, and footwear to youth organizations offering sports, fitness and recreational programs to youth in need. Please read the following carefully prior to applying for equipment grant to better understand our criteria and our process.

To be eligible for an equipment grant your orgnization must meet the following criteria:
• Directly serve youth aged 5-18 years old

• Serve youth in disadvantaged areas

• Located in the United States

• Demonstrate that an equipment grant would impact the organization in one of the following ways:
• Help to develop a new program

• Increase the number of participants in an existing program

• Decrease the overall cost of the program for youth/families

• Enhance the experience to retain youth in program.

• Operate an organized sport, fitness and/or recreation program (not necessarily competitive), but must have coaching, be structured, and meet on a consistent basis

• Equipment for short term events such as many camps and tournaments is not available.

• 501 ( c) 3 status NOT required

Submit an application:
• Incomplete applications will not be considered—all questions must be answered

• Please only submit one application per organization

• Estimates on demographics and budgets will be accepted where specific data may not be available

• If you feel it is necessary, you may include additional materials in your application

• Organizations looking to strengthen their application are encouraged to send in a video that visually showcases their need. Submissions should be mailed to Good Sports on a CD or DVD

• You may be asked to participate in phone interview---supporting documentation may be required

• If chosen for a grant, you will be required to complete a release form

• For confirmation that your application has been received, please email mwright@goodsports.org
If chosen for a grant:
• You will be required to complete a release form

• An administrative fee of 10% of the retail value must be submitted along with the release form (e.g., an organization receiving a donation of $1,500 worth of equipment is subject to a $150 administrative fee)

• Administrative fee scholarships are very limited and available on a case by case basis

• You will be required to complete an evaluation form to help Good Sports understand the benefits of the donation to your program

• You may be asked to coordinate site visits with Good Sports staff for more in-depth interview/evaluations

Application Timing:
• Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis so you may apply at anytime; however, organizations are asked to apply at least 8 weeks prior to the start of their season/program

(List Last Updated 11/7/11)

Good Sports has greater access to certain pieces of equipment, apparel and footwear than others. As a result, we have included a separate equipment list that allows you to request items we are more likely to be able to provide you with. If you have needs that can be met with the items on that list, please fill out and send to Michael Wright. Keep in mind that this document will supplement the online application, and submissions of just the equipment list will be rejected. You are allowed to request items on both the online application and the separate equipment list.

Should you choose to fill out the separate equipment list, make sure you complete the two questions in section 5 again that can be found at the end of the list. Your organization will not be granted any items that you request but do not explain the need for.

Feel free to contact Michael Wright should you have any questions regarding this process.
