It’s May 5th and, officially, the first Giving Tuesday Now. As we move forward through these unprecedented times, your support in helping to create the biggest comeback in youth sports is appreciated more now than ever before. Once play resumes, program leaders and schools will be way behind the starting line when it comes to resources for the kids they serve. And not every kid has a yard or a basketball of their own to keep them moving while they wait for play to return – we need to be here for them all now to ensure youth sports has a future.

Even though sports are on pause, we can still give back from home. Here are the easiest – and most effective – ways to help Good Sports create equity in youth sports today in honor of Giving Tuesday Now:

  1. Help Good Sports Restore Play – Even though sports are on pause, our organization is still accepting grant applications from youth programs and schools nationwide. Once play is back, we want to make sure we have the gear necessary to send out right away so that all kids can get back to playing. A donation to our fundraising page here is the most direct way to ensure kids in need get gear to play the sports they love!
  2. Run Your Own Virtual Race – Start off running, walking, or biking in the right direction! Thanks to Miles4 My Community via Stack Sports, you can fundraise just by exercising on your home turf. Sign up for the virtual race today (yes, there’s a t-shirt!) and the money you fundraise will go to help Good Sports, as well as the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army. You can join a team, organize one or run on your own – but hurry! The race kicks off Saturday, May 9th so sign up here!
  3. Apply for Equipment – Yes! Good Sports is still accepting applications. If you know a school or youth program serving kids in need that will require athletic equipment, apparel, and footwear once play is back, have them submit an online application. Our Good Sports team is waiting! Take a look at our criteria and apply here.
  1. Sign Up to Volunteer – Once play is back, it’ll be all hands on deck at our Massachusetts headquarters. Our Good Sports team will need the help of volunteers to prepare sports equipment so that approved organizations from all over the country can receive their gear right away. You can sign up now to be contacted by us as soon as we’re back. We accept volunteer inquires from individuals, families, and companies. You can learn more about the different types of volunteer opportunities here.

Bringing play back is no easy task – but no big win has even been! Your support today will echo far beyond the effects of COVID-19. As we all work together this Giving Tuesday Now, we ask that you remember the feeling that playing sports brought you – and to pass it on. It’s up to us, little by little, to get all kids off the sidelines and back into the game.
