Thanksgiving isn’t Thanksgiving without a Turkey Trot to start the day. We’re so excited that Good Sport’s Virtual Turkey Trot is back for a third year in a row. This year’s Turkey Trot is presented by Home Team Sports and Right Networks.
The beauty of our virtual race is that you can sign up from anywhere and trot wherever you want. If you’ve never run a Turkey Trot – we’d like to both encourage you and help you prepare! Check out our tips below to make sure your trot is a success.
Set A Race Date
The time frame for the Good Sports Turkey Trot is from November 25th – November 28th, so pick a day that works best for you. Oh, and you can say goodbye to those early morning races if that’s not your thing. Run at the best time for you, whether that’s in the morning, afternoon, or evening.
Map Out A Route
The Good Sports Turkey Trot is a 5K, so a little over three miles long with the option to also do a 1-mile fun run. To map out your route, you can use mapping apps on your smart phone or computer to help you measure the distance. A smart watch works too. Plan on having a start and finish spot in the same location so you don’t have to get transportation. Make sure your route is in a good location with high visibility – we want to be sure you’re safe out there!
Make A Playlist
If you like to run, walk, jog whatever it may be while listening to music, we definitely suggest making a playlist beforehand. Make sure you have enough songs for the amount of time you expect it will take you to finish the trot.
Train – If You Want To
If you’re the type of person that likes to train before race day, then go for it! If not, that’s totally fine too. If you choose to train, just remember to always listen to your body and don’t push yourself too hard. Just remember, a Turkey Trot is supposed to be FUN and if you feel underprepared for it, that’s okay! Do the race anyway. Walking is always an option.
Grab Some Friends And Family
Trotting alongside some friends and family is a nice form of encouragement and motivation. Snap some pictures so you can look back on your Turkey Trot accomplishment!
Enjoy The Day
We hope your Turkey Trot is filled with gratitude, good memories, and a delicious feast as your reward!
