Why did you want to run the Falmouth Road Race for Good Sports?

I was extremely interested in getting involved with Good Sports race teams when a family friend told me about the mission and the work they do. I wanted to help a cause that was near to my heart. Sports was and continues to be a huge part of my life. I believe every child should have a chance to try any sport, as it supports their social, mental and physical wellbeing. I wanted to get involved in a cause that not only I felt a personal connection to but my community around me also felt a connection to.

What sports did you play growing up? Do you participate in any now?

I played Soccer and Basketball all through High school. I probably tried every other sport possible (swimming, tennis, softball, etc.)  I hung up my soccer cleats this past season, but I will be an assistant high school soccer coach this fall and I am very excited for the opportunity.

Why did you want to run the Falmouth Road Race for Good Sports?

Running has become a huge passion of mine over the past year and having the opportunity to run in such a popular and well-recognized event is such an honor.  I spent my childhood visiting my grandparents in the Cape and continue to make annual vacation trips with my family.  It will be an honor to run in such a fun event in a place that is near and dear to my heart.

What sports did you play growing up? Do you participate in any now?

I have experiences across a wide variety of sports.  I played soccer, basketball and baseball as a young child.  In high school I played a year of freshman hockey, ran cross country and track, played two years of varsity football and basketball and participated in rec league tennis.  Sports were my way of connecting with other people and the thing that gave me a sense of purpose as a child.

Today, running is the primary sport I participate in, trying to get in between 35 and 50 miles per week.  In addition to training for Falmouth, I am training for the Chicago Marathon in October.  Beyond that, I also coach both of my sons’ baseball teams and am very active with their basketball and football training.  Sports continue to be an important part of my, and my boys’, life.

Why did you want to run the Falmouth Road Race for Good Sports?

As a mom of two active boys who play hockey, flag football, baseball, and lacrosse, I see firsthand the benefits of sports and physical activity. My boys are learning how to be great teammates and be respectful to adults.  They are gaining a sense of belonging, improving their confidence, and practicing handling disappointment (along with celebrating success!). Through the families and coaches we’ve met, we’ve had amazing experiences with youth sports. I feel grateful to be a part of these teams and hope that all children can get those opportunities.

What sports did you play growing up? Do you participate in any now?

I helped to start the first Girls Ice Hockey team at Framingham High School and played ice hockey at Union College my freshman year. These days you can find me in the stands as a proud and supportive (sometimes rowdy) parent 😊

Why did you want to run the Falmouth Road Race for Good Sports?

Sports were a huge part of my life growing up and still are today. The mission of making sports accessible to high-need youth is one that really resonated with me, and I hope that my contribution can help bring the enjoyment of sports to those that would not otherwise be able to play

What sports did you play growing up? Do you participate in any now?

I played basketball, soccer, tennis, baseball, and golf growing up and continue to play all of those today.

Why did you want to run the Falmouth Road Race for Good Sports?

My brothers and I always grew up playing sports, and the lessons we learned from it stay with us today. The thought of children unable to take part in sports and physical activity is terrible. Through Good Sports, I’m hoping I can pay it forward to another child who can learn the same lessons I did, while also becoming a healthier, more active version of themselves in the process.

What sports did you play growing up? Do you participate in any now?

I played all sorts of sports when I was little, but my favorite sport was basketball. My best friends are still those I made while playing basketball, and my coaches continue to be role models for me, even as an adult. While running is the only sport I engage in, I also like to do yoga and pilates. I also coach a girls AAU basketball team and it is so fun to support the next generation of kids.

Why did you want to run the Falmouth Road Race for Good Sports?

Having three older sisters, our parents sent us into sports at the earliest possible moment. We played soccer, tennis, and lacrosse together, often on the same teams. When I decided to keep playing lacrosse through college at UCLA, my sisters came to as many of my games as they could. Lacrosse was one of my favorite parts about college and I still carry a lot of love for the sport, helping coach and attending games when I can. However, though originally a Native American sport, lacrosse has often only been accessible to certain communities and backgrounds, typically due to the expensive equipment costs. Often times on my teams in the past I would be one of the few non-white players on the roster. I’m joining the Good Sports team this year because I’d like to help expand access to lacrosse to these underserved communities and specifically help increase the number of people of color playing the sport.

Why did you want to run the Falmouth Road Race for Good Sports?

I wanted to run the FRR with Good Sports because I truly believe that all kids should have access to sports. Being on a team and being involved in sports from a young age helped to shape who I am as an athlete and adult today, and I want to help to make sure all children have the same opportunity. In doing so, we are also making sure kids learn the importance of physical activity, starting from a young age. So many incredibly important life lessons are learned while out on the field or when spending time with your teammates, I want to help Good Sports pave the way for all kids to be their best athlete :)

What sports did you play growing up? Do you participate in any now?

I played all the sports under the sun as a kid/teenager. Soccer, tennis, basketball, track and field, even golf! As I’ve gotten older, I’ve honed in on my love for running, where I’ve focused on longer distance running (half and full marathons).

Why did you want to run the Falmouth Road Race for Good Sports?

My running club runs a summer camp for kids in Nashua called Fitness University and when I was volunteering last year I realized how important sports can be for kids. When I found out how much Good Sports has given to the greater Nashua community, I knew I had to at least apply to be part of their team!

What sports did you play growing up? Do you participate in any now?

I experimented with a few sports growing up, soccer, basketball, and dance, but it was on the swim team in high school that I finally felt like I was in the right place. I do still swim 2 or 3 days a week with a Master’s group here in NH! I started running about 11 years ago and am part of a local running club.
