On the anniversary of the devastating fires that forever changed communities across Los Angeles, we pause to reflect and honor the resilience of the young people, families, and organizations who continue the long road toward recovery.
In the wake of the fires, Good Sports launched Restore Play to help ensure that kids impacted by disaster could continue to experience the physical, emotional, and social benefits of play. While equipment alone cannot undo loss, it can provide a sense of normalcy during an incredibly difficult time.
Year-to-Date Impact
This work would not be possible without the many incredible partners who stepped forward with urgency, compassion, and trust. Their support has helped ensure that kids affected by the fires were not left without opportunities to play, grow, and connect during one of the most challenging periods of their lives. Over the last year, we have made the following impact:
- 65 donations shipped
- $1,545,537 in total donation value
- 34,471 kids served
These donations have helped schools reopen programs, community organizations resume activities, and youth-serving nonprofits continue showing up for kids when consistency matters most.
The Power of Play in Recovery
The true impact of Restore Play is best understood through the voices of the organizations:
“The replacement of our equipment that was lost in the Eaton fires has greatly alleviated our budget concerns. More importantly, seeing and hearing the joyful shouts of so many of our students playing with the equipment you provided makes all the difference to our staff, students, and families.”
— Altadena School
Moments like these underscore why play matters: not as a distraction from hardship, but as a critical part of recovery and well-being.
Recovery Is Ongoing
While this work has reached tens of thousands of children, the feedback from the community is clear: recovery is far from over. Many organizations are still navigating damaged facilities, strained budgets, and long-term rebuilding efforts. Healing takes time, and sustained support is essential.
Restore Play is Good Sports’ ongoing commitment to stand alongside communities like Los Angeles in the wake of natural disasters. Play is not a luxury—it’s a powerful tool for healing, and together, we can continue making space for it where it matters most.
